英语角活动回顾|音乐英语Ⅱ:当表达不止于语言

     在本次音乐主题英语角中,Jon以一首经典作品为切入点,将“语言学习”与“情感表达”自然结合。从最初的听觉冲击,到中段的参与式演唱,再到最后的意义探讨,整场活动呈现出一种由浅入深的结构:从感知,到体验,再到理解与反思。语言不再停留于词汇与句型,而是融入情境、情绪与人与人之间的关系之中。

In this music-themed English Corner, Jon used a classic song as the starting point, naturally bringing together language learning and emotional expression. From the initial listening experience, to interactive singing, and finally to a deeper discussion of meaning, the session unfolded: from perception, to participation, then to understanding and reflection.Language was no longer limited to vocabulary and sentence patterns, but became embedded in context, emotion, and the connections between people.

Starting with Contrast

从“反差”开始:重新认识音乐

No.1

     活动伊始,Jon并没有直接进入本次的主题歌曲,而是先播放了一段美国摇滚乐队 Extreme 的现场表演。强烈的节奏、张扬的舞台表现,让同学们迅速产生一种典型的“摇滚印象”,即摇滚都是热烈、张力十足、甚至略带叛逆的。

At the beginning of the session, Jon didn’t go straight into the featured song. Instead, he first played a live performance clip by the American rock band Extreme. The intense rhythm and energetic stage presence quickly gave students a typical impression of rock music, which should be powerful, dynamic, and even a little rebellious.

     紧接着,Jon播放了本次学习的歌曲More Than Words。出乎意料的是,这首歌几乎完全由原声吉他构成,旋律温柔克制,情绪内敛细腻。前后强烈的风格反差,使同学们产生了明显的认知冲突,也引发了一个值得思考的问题:

Then Jon introduced the featured song of the session More Than Words. To everyone’s surprise, the song is built almost entirely on acoustic guitar, with a soft, restrained melody and a delicate, introspective mood. The sharp contrast between the two styles created a clear sense of cognitive dissonance among the students, and led to a thought-provoking question:

    我们对“风格”的理解,是否常常被固有印象所限制?

Are our understandings of “style” often shaped and limited by our existing assumptions?

     音乐在这里不仅是一种听觉体验,更成为打破刻板印象的媒介。通过这种对比,同学们开始意识到,任何一种表达形式都可能包含多重面向,而真正的理解,往往来自于超越表象的深入体验。

Music was not only something to listen to; it also became a medium for challenging stereotypes. Through this contrast, students began to realize that any form of expression can have multiple dimensions, and that true understanding often comes from looking beyond the surface and engaging with it more deeply.

Learning Through Melody

在旋律中学习

     在建立了初步的感受之后,Jon拿起吉他,带领同学们逐句学唱歌曲。在这个过程中,语言不再是抽象的符号,而是通过声音与身体被“体验”出来。

After forming an initial impression, Jon picked up his guitar and guided the students through the song line by line. In this process, language was no longer treated as abstract symbols, but was experienced through voice and physical engagement.

    Jon在教学中自然融入了一些基础的音乐概念,例如:

Along the process, Jon naturally introduced some basic musical concepts, such as:

·half key(降半音):帮助学生理解音高的细微变化

·half key: helping students understand subtle changes in pitch

·falsetto(假声):体验声音在不同发声方式中的转换

·falsetto: allowing students to experience shifts in vocal production

     这些内容看似属于音乐范畴,但实际上为语言学习提供了新的维度。发音、语调、节奏,本身就是语言的重要组成部分,而通过“唱”的方式,同学们更直观地感受到英语的韵律与流动。

Although these ideas all come from music, they added a new dimension to language learning. Pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm are all essential elements of language, and through singing, students were able to feel the flow and musicality of English more directly.

     在这一过程中,学习不再局限于“理解意义”,而是扩展为一种多感官参与、听、说、唱、感受相互交织,使语言变得更加立体的体验。

In this sense, learning English already moved beyond simply “understanding meaning” and became a multi-sensory experience, where listening, speaking, singing, and feeling came together, making language more vivid and dynamic.

Why Expression Requires Action

表达为何需要行动

No.3

     随着旋律逐渐熟悉,活动的重点自然过渡到对歌词的理解。在讨论中,同学们逐渐发现,这首歌并不仅仅是在讲述爱情,而是在探讨一种更普遍的人际关系命题:

As the melody became more familiar, the focus of the session naturally shifted to understanding the lyrics. Through discussion, students gradually realized that the song is not simply about romantic love, but raises a broader question about human relationships:

    当语言变得轻易可得时,它是否仍然具有真正的分量?

When words become easy to say, do they still carry real weight?

   “More than words”所强调的,并不是否定语言本身,而是提醒人们:表达的真实性,最终需要通过行动来支撑。

What More Than Words emphasizes is not a rejection of language itself, but a reminder that the authenticity of expression ultimately needs to be supported by action.

在这一层面上,歌曲能够引导同学们从“听懂歌词”,走向“思考表达”。语言学习,也因此从工具性层面,延伸到对沟通本质的反思。

At this level, the song served as a guide,  and it can greatly lead students from “understanding the lyrics” to “reflecting on expression.” Then the Language learning moved beyond its instrumental function and opened up into a deeper reflection on the nature of communication.

Summary 总结

     本次活动是音乐主题英语角的第二期尝试,也是在不断探索中的一步。从摇滚到抒情,从聆听到表达,从语言到意义,每一个环节都在拓展英语学习的边界。

This session marked the second exploration of our music-themed English Corner, and another step in an ongoing journey. From rock to ballad, from listening to expression, and from language to meaning, each stage helped push the boundaries of what English learning can be.

     未来,Jon将继续围绕音乐这一主题,设计更多不同风格的英语角活动,让同学们在多样的声音中,体验语言的丰富性,也逐渐建立起属于自己的表达方式。

Looking ahead, Jon will continue to build on the theme of music, designing more English Corner sessions across different styles. Through a variety of sounds and experiences, students will not only discover the richness of language, but also begin to shape their own ways of expression.

     或许,语言学习的终点,从来不只是“说得正确”,而是在合适的时刻,说出真正有意义的话,并用行动去回应它。

Perhaps the ultimate goal of language learning is not simply to “speak correctly,”but to say something truly meaningful at the right moment and to support it with action.
